Many students were in class when they heard the fire sirens outside the windows of their classes. This did not seem like a noteworthy instance since sirens are heard throughout Frostburg daily. Therefore, it came as a shock to students when they discovered not one but four firetrucks parked outside of the Cheasepeake Dining Hall around 12 pm. News spread fast throughout campus of a fire that started in the kitchen. As teachers and students stood watching the firemen bustle in and out of the building, no visible fire could be seen on the outside of the building. Later in the day, students recieved the following email saying, "Because of a problem resulting from the roof replacement project at Chesapeake Dining Hall, the dining hall will be closed tonight (Thursday, Nov. 3). Dinner will be served instead in the Lane University Center Greenhouse and Atkinson rooms. Chesapeake should reopen for service tomorrow morning." It is hard to keep from wondering why the officials on campus decided to blame the roofing rather than the fire for the closing of the Dining Hall. Frostburg did however, provide dining services in Lane as the damaged was cleaned up in the kitchen and the roofing was finished. Accidents happen but students still need to have access to food, which Gibralter acknowledged and provided during the accident.
