Hey This Isn't About Sex! Blah!

The Questions: What are your plans for Halloween? What’s your costume? What’s your favorite part of Halloween?

“…my favorite part of Halloween is it’s my birthday!” says Jessica Horne, will be going as Betty Boop for Halloween and having a costume party. For Jessica, Halloween is obviously a full spirited day, but for other students not so much. “I’m the wrong person to ask…” laughed Aaron Webb, a junior and a Business Administration major, who does not celebrate Halloween. Instead, Webb plans to attend choir rehearsal with his fellow members of UVUGD Gospel Choir* and then chill for the rest of the night. Tauren Lovell does not celebrate Halloween either, why not? –“Because I’m 21 years old and I’ll be watching Monday Night Football.” A senior at Bowie State University and a Biology major, Keisha Tappin admits, “I normally don’t do Halloween, but this year I will be going to a haunted house.”

Haunted houses, full of boos and ahhhhs, are being advertised all over Frostburg State University and students like Jimmese Hill, a senior and a Mass Communications major, are going in for the scares. She won’t be rocking a costume this year, but she did go to UPC’s* haunted house in Cumberland hall on Thursday. Jimmese brings out the child-like love of Halloween acknowledging that she loves the candy—just as A.J. Jones does, an Exercise and Sports Science major and a member of FSU’s football team, “No plans, I don’t get dressed up, but I love Halloween for its candy.”

What Halloween means to Students?

Eric Arditti a recent general studies major at Mcdanial College from Fulton, Maryland says " I plan on staying home for Halloween for the first time in years and just handing out candy, to the trick-or-treaters or come by my house. I think for Halloween I'm just going to wear this scary old mask I found, and a black sheet to cover the rest of my body. Something really simple not trying to go all out. The best part of Halloween would have to be the candy, tons and tons of candy. Im still a kid at heart no matter how old I get.

Jess Musselman a sophomore Liberal Studies major at Frostburg State from Libertytown, Maryland still enjoys the Halloween holiday." I'm pretty excited for Halloween I am going to be going home this weekend and hangout with some of my hometown friends and go out to a couple of parties. This year again I will probably end up being a hippy or a Indian or something like that because that's what I was previous years and I do not have money to be buying another costume. But my favorite parts of Halloween would def have to be the old traditions like the scary movies that come on AMC and the Halloween festivals and of course seeing people and the kids in their costumes.

Stephanie Straka a junior health and education major at Frostburg State University from Jerome, Pennsylvania is one of the few who is not into the Halloween festivities. Straka explains " I'm just not into the whole Halloween thing anymore. I think I'm getting to old for it and also all the dressing up just takes to much time. I'm just going to chill in the house and watch a couple of movies until I sleep. Basketball and the whole practice things really just takes me out of the mood."

Halloween means different things and many people are going to engage in different activities. What will you take part in this Halloween on Monday October 31, 2011.

Halloween :)

Facebook is inevitably a great way to talk to people, but it's amazing how many people suddenly will not comment on your status when you ask them to. I tracked down three Facebook Friends on the chat feature and asked them 3 questions: 1. What are your plans for Halloween? 2. What is your costume? 3. What is your favorite part of Halloween? This is what they had to say:

"I plan on going home for the weekend to my high schools homecoming game. I don't have a costume and my favorite part of halloween is watching scary movies or going out to a halloween party," says Alyssa Orem-major in elementary education at potomac state college.

"I am going to go to a party as Red Riding Hood. My favorite part is eating Candy Corn and seeing the houses decorated. My favorite movie is Hocus Pocus," says Jenny Rosecky- majoring in Computers at ACM.

"I plan on staying at home and watching scary movies. My costume is this year is going to be really good...sweat pants :D My favorite part of halloween are the movie marathons, specifically abc family's showing of hocus pocus," says Brooke Baier- general studies 2011 garrett college.

Halloween!

The festivities of Halloween are coming to town this weekend, and the plans and thoughts on the holiday are as similiar as they are diverse.
Frostburg Alumnus Matthew George will be attending a friend's party, dressed as the Marvel superhero, Hawkeye. And that will be his favorite part, as it has been since he was a child, creating another year's awesome costume.
Arthur Natishan, a Senior History major from Annapolis will be changing a lot, but almost not at all. He's going as Arthur from "The Tick," and will almost certainly enjoy being on a first name basis with every new person he meets. He'll be making his way to some parties with his friends to enjoy some time off.
Guinevere Norman, a Senior History major from Elkton, writes that she'll be attending a friend's party with some very cheesy decorations. As she has done in the past, she'll be a Starfleet officer, enjoying her favorite activity of the holiday, "listening to people pretend they know about samhain/all hallows eve."
Sounds like Halloween.
