Learn to Snowboard

Whenever I'm asked what I am truly passionate about the first that comes to mind is snowboarding. I started snowboarding 8 years ago when I was 14. I had skateboarded since I was 9 and was always bored during the winter. When winter came I played video games all day, one of them was 1080 snowboarding on Nintendo 64. I loved the game and I loved skateboarding so I knew snowboarding would be for me. When I was 14 my parents took me on a two day trip to Wisp resort, not far from Frostburg. My first day I took one lesson, but it wasn't enough. I loved it from the start. By the end of the day I had taken 3 back to back one and a half hour lessons with the same instructor. He was 19 and I thought he had the coolest job ever. I remember that he was attending West Virginia University and came and taught on the weekends. Thats when I thought, If I get really good at this I could teach snowboarding too. 3 years ago I began working at Whitetail Ski resort in Mercersburg, PA. It has been the best job I could imagine, besides the money. When I teach snowboarding lessons I reflect back on how much taking lessons helped me learn the proper technique. I thought I began at a good age, 14, but after teaching I learned age is not a factor in learning to snowboard. At this point I've taught 6 year old beginners and I've taught 65 year old beginners. So, if you find yourself bored this winter break come learn to snowboard. A beginner lesson at Whitetail costs only $39 which includes the lesson, a lift ticket, and rentals. Who knows, maybe you'll love it so much you might be next to teach.
