Gibralter's Green Holiday Card

Frostburg State University President, Dr. Jonathan Gibralter, along with his wife sent out their holiday greeting card to faculty, staff, students, alumni and friends. These cards are typically sent out via the postal service as a physical piece of mail. However, you probably noticed that Dr. Gibralter’s card was sent out via email.

The message said, “As part of our sustainability efforts, we decided to send our holiday message by email this year.”

Christmas time is the most popular time of the year to send greeting cards, as the average American home sends out 28 Christmas cards. China has to cut down approximately 10,000 trees every year to make these holiday cards. That is a lot of trees that could be saved by simply sending out holiday cards by email.

Not only will the use of email save paper, but it saves money for the sender as many of the E-card services are free. The card arrives instantly where it is going, and it is very easy to add sound to the card.

Many of you probably did not even realize the magnitude of President Gibralter sending out his holiday card by email, but hopefully now you will go and send your holiday cards out by email rather than using the postal service. Gibralter's efforts to go green are very noticeable as indicated by his holiday card.
