University Neighbors

On Tuesday, 11/29/11, at 4pm, I got to sit down with Kathleen Powell for an interview. However, I was not the one interviewing. As previously stated in my last blog, Be a Part of Research and get 20 Dollars!, I signed up for an interview with Ms. Powell to help her with her research. I can't say what we talked about for fear that I may jeopardize her research and its necessity of honest unbiased input, but I can talk about my experience. My conversation with Ms. Powell lasted three hours, an hour longer than expected, but it was delightful! I say conversation because that is what it was. Although I was hooked up to a recording device and challenge to think about certain issues, there was definitely a give and take aspect to the interview.

At the end of the interview Ms. Powell handed me a brochure, pictured above. If you remember from my last blog, I had written that Ms. Powell's research involved the relationship between off campus student residents and the town of Frostburg. The brochure she handed me included information on how these two neighborhoods can get more involved with one another. The group, University Neighbors, as advertized in the brochure, organizes fundraisers, charity events, and social events to help university faculty/students and Frostburg locals get to know one another better. The events this group holds also helps each group feel that they've benefited from this positive relationship. Presently, this group doesn't have enough members to host events and unfortunately, it seems that this year may be no different. So, if you live off-campus and would like to facilitate a positive relationship between FSU and the town of Frostburg you can become a part of University Neighbors. To volunteer, just call Maxine Bond at (301-689-5464), Lois Deasy at (301-689-8082), or Eleanor Miller at (301-689-3572), and tell them your interested.
