Women's Issues!

Hello all! My name is Katie Deal and I will be covering campus women's issues this semester. Why would I want to cover this beat? No, not because I am a women (although that is very important), but because I am a compassionate human being. The title of "women's issues" suggests that only the female population should be concerned about these problems. However, I feel as though any kind of inequality such as this ultimately effects everyone's lives and I hope that I can bring awareness and passion to all genders on this topic.
The main topics that I would like to investigate include the Women's Studies program (and organization), sexual assault, female athletes, non-traditional majors for females, female faculty, and much, much more. Any other suggestions other than the awesome topics everyone gave me in class would be greatly appreciated!
Also, I wanted to make everyone aware of the Red Zone Forum this week. The "Red Zone" is the period of time towards the beginning of the semester when students (especially freshman females) are the most likely to be sexually assaulted. This will be held Thursday, September 15 at 7:00pm in the Lane Center ARMAH. This forum could be a really great topic or starting place for a lot of other beats. It will overlap my beat with the freshman topic, alcohol, drugs, sex, and probably some others that I am missing.
