Sex in
the Eyes of a Christian
By: Neil Ralph
This week, I wanted to cover sex in
a religious perspective. Recent FSU graduate Evangeline Cade was more than
happy to share her knowledge and personal experiences in the Christian religion.
“The Bible is fairly explicit that sex
outside of marriage is wrong,” Cade says. “But this is not because God is a
jerk who wants to keep us from something good.” Furthermore, she said that God
wants sex to be only enjoyed by married couples. “God knows that having other partners before marriage often
causes emotional pain and brings baggage into the marriage because it means
that two people have been intimately joined together, ripped apart (for
whatever reason, often hurtful in itself), and then joined to other people,”
Cade continues. These beliefs have helped Evangeline make her own decisions on
sex. “One of the biggest ways I have avoided doing anything physical with guys
is simply not getting involved with guys who do not share my love for God and
my desire to remain abstinent,” Cade confesses. “To me, abstinence is not just
avoiding sexual intercourse, but also trying to avoid anything that incites
lust.” I enjoyed talking to Evangeline
about a deep, religious topic such as this. It was good to take my beat and
direct it towards another audience this week.
