"Bonginwho?" FSU's thoughts on the Maryland Senate Race 2012

"Bonginwho?" FSU's thoughts on the Maryland Senate Race 2012
 By Scott McDonough, ENGL 490

It's Election Day in the United States of America, and everybody is focused on the Presidential elections, but for those who aren't aware, elections to the United States Senate are also being held.
In 2012, Ben Cardin (D), Daniel Bongino (R), and Rob Sobhani (I) are the nominees for the United States Senate election in Maryland.

Unfortunately, it seems that most FSU students are either unfamilair or unconcerned with the Maryland nominees for the U.S. Senate, or at least, it seemed that way for most FSU students I had a chance to talk with about the topic. When I asked FSU freshman Connor Stemple to share his thoughts on the Maryland Senate race between Cardin, Bongino, and Sobhani, he answered with a humorous but very telling reply: "Bonginwho?" Visual Arts major Matthew Farrell shared a similar sentiment as Connor when I asked him about his thoughts on the United States Senate elections in Maryland as he simply revealed, "I haven't thought about it one bit."

Fortunately, the day wasn't a total bust and a few students did have something more to say than "Bonginwho?"  Politcal Science major Adam McCaskil is confident that incumbent Ben Cardin will win with very little effort, stating, "Ben Cardin is a democrat in a land of democrats, he'll be elected until he decides to retire an old wealthy man with better healthcare than any of us working slobs have." Likewise, FSU junior Lauren Greber concluded that Ben Cardin would easily win the election, but only because "Sobhani's running as a middle of the road conservative will take away votes from the true conservative candidate." She added, "Mr. Sobhani doesn't stand a chance, he is just a big spoiler."

Which Maryland nominee do you think will be elected to the United States Senate in 2012?
Cardin? Sobhani? "Bonginwho?"
Get informed and vote!
