Cardin v. Bongino at Frostburg State

Frostburg State, you having some researching to do. Election day is tomorrow and, in regards to the Maryland State Senatorial race between Democrat Ben Cardin and Republican Dan Bongino, the students of Frostburg State seem largely uninformed.

I was disappointed to discover that my rounds through the student center polling students and my inquiries about student's voting intentions resulted in mostly blank stares. Cardin? Bongino? What?
Three students, though, were able to give me answers.

Sophomore art and design major Antwann Harper replied that he was voting for Cardin. When asked why, however, things stalled a bit. "Dang. I forgot his information already. Sorry, I'm tired." After giving him time to stew over his answer and reflect, he responded by telling me that since he was voting for Obama for president, he felt he should also vote for a democrat in the senate so that Obama won't have to fight so much with congress. The student ended by adding, "He believes in college and in education."

Adam Harbaugh, a sophomore political science and law and society double major, reported that he was voting for republican Bongino, responding briefly that he was doing so "just because it's my party."

Finally, non-traditional and non-degree seeking student Melissa Zachritz added that her vote was going for Cardin because "Bongino is nuts and Cardin's view align more closely with mine."

If you are eligible to vote, you have both the right to do so and the responsibility to do so as an informed citizen. So, if you are among the many who are uneducated on the issues and the candidates or if you know so little as to only be voting along party lines, please, take today to research both Ben Cardin and Dan Bongino. (And, if you want to be really informed, independent candidate Rob Sobhani. )
