FSU Student's Best Hangover "Cures"

Most people that have had any experience with alcohol have probably experienced a hangover at some point or another. Excessive drinking can lead to a hangover, and hangover symptoms vary from person to person. Common ailments include nausea, vomiting, headaches, fatigue, dehydration, and increased sensitivity to light or noise. While many claim to have found the perfect hangover cure, no such thing really exists. Asparagus, bacon sandwiches (really!), intravenous saline drips, and "hair of the dog," or drinking more alcohol when feeling hungover, are just some of the things people claim help cure them of their hangover symptoms. But just like hangover side effects are different for everyone, everyone has different hangover remedies. I spoke with several FSU graduates and current students and compiled a list of what seems to be student's favorite remedies.

  • Powerade or Gatorade, either before bed or the morning after drinking
  • Sleep
  • Tylenol/Advil/Motrin/Ibuprofen, either before bed or the morning after drinking
  • Ginger Ale the morning after drinking
  • Greasy food (favorites include pizza, chicken wings, and Taco Bell), either before bed or the morning after drinking
  • Taking B Vitamins
  • Lots and lots of water

While these "fixes" may not help everyone who experiences a hangover, these seem to be common methods of alleviating symptoms. Next time you decide to go out on "Thirsty Thursday" even though you have class Friday morning, try one of these hangover "cures." It just might help!
