Give a Little, Get a Little: Charitable Fashion

Thanksgiving is looming ever nearer and we must pause and reflect upon the principles of the season. Giving back, thinking of others and reaching out should be of paramount importance, especially in the season of appreciation and thanks. Now, yes, you can just donate and, even, you should. But, when you are going to be out on the shopping-bag strip anyway, preparing for the winter holidays, take a second to consider picking products that donate proceeds to charity.

We all know about Tom's- the charitable do-good brand that relies on the principle of "one for one." You buy a pair of  shoes, you give a pair of  shoes. You buy, you help. Tom's shoes, though, may not be for everyone. Their classic shoes feature a unique binding style and not everybody wants to rock that look. That's cool, though, because now they have expanded their collection to include boots, wedges and sunglasses guaranteed to make you look slick and suave .

Out of Print is one of my favorite websites. It takes old novel covers- of everything from Moby Dick to Pride and Prejudice, Atlas Shurgged to Corduroy- and makes them into t-shirts, totes, phone covers, journals, coasters and more. With sixty-five titles and covers to chose from, even the haughtiest of book critics will find some fashion to inspire them. To add to the inspiration, you can feel good knowing that for each product sold the company donates one book to Africa through their partner organization called Books for Africa.
