The Other Side: Poltergeists part 1

Religion is a subject that many people don’t talk about for various reasons. For some people, religion and their beliefs are something that they consider sacred. For others, religion represents hurt because of bad past experiences. For me, I don’t believe in religion. I am a follower of the Lord and Son of GOD, Jesus Christ. I have seen many things that people do not believe in, and a few things that have expanded my mind. I have dealt with demon possessed people, I seen and experienced miracles, I have been in “haunted“ houses, heard growling in empty rooms, and seen a demon. I don’t say these things to brag. I say them only to preface my blog. For the next few weeks, I promise to bring you things that you don’t believe in a way that is non-threatening and non-eccentric. Ladies and gentlemen welcome to “The Other Side”.

This week’s edition of “the Other Side” features the story of a friend of mine who attends Frostburg.

Jessica Smith is a senior who lives on Bowery Street. That is not that big of a deal right? Wrong, Jessica has an interesting story to tell. She moved into her apartment on Bowery in May of 2012. She stayed in her place during the summer by herself, and towards the end of the summer, strange things started to happen around her home.  Jessica says that things started subtly. She had a dehumidifier in the corner of her room that she used frequently. One day, she came home to find her dehumidifier on and running. She did not think much of it, and flipped it off. Days went by, and she forgot about the incident. One day, she came home and it was on again. She started trying to explain to herself what would turn this machine on by itself. Maybe it was a short in the machine’s wiring? Maybe there were power surges that flipped it on? She did some sleuth work, and discovered that the dehumidifier was not on the same setting that she normally left it on. The knob had turned itself. Is that possible? She thought not. By this time, she was on slight alert about what may be going on in her house, but she decided not to give it much thought. Then, things started to get a bit more real. What happened when a poster with four thumbtacks holding it in place launched off of a wall at her? Jessica says that “it scared the crap outta me.” “Maybe it’s a really weird coincidence”, she thought.  Well it happened again, but this time she woke up to the poster on her bed. The poster had flown off of the wall while she was sleeping and landed on her bed. Now, there’s a cause for alarm. She was starting to believe that maybe something un-normal was happening. The confirmation came when her soap dish launched at her face while she was showering. Last I checked, soap dishes don’t do much flying by themselves.  Now, she comes home to find stuff moved that she knows that she did not touch before she left. She believes that her home is co-inhabited by a poltergeist. For those outside the know, a poltergeist is a violent and disruptive spiritual entity.  For most people, a poltergeist would mean a sudden change of residence. But, for Jessica, a poltergeist isn’t that out of the ordinary because there was one in the house she grew up in. She assures me that she is fine. She won’t be worried until “doors start slamming, lights start flickering, and walls start bleeding”. Jessica, I hope it does not get to that point.
