Money Hungry?

College students earn their money in several different ways. Some have jobs, while some have parents who send them money and some have even saved money throughout the summer prior to the school year. Whatever the money source may be, college students have one thing in common when it comes to spending.

"I have a job back at home in Frederick Maryland," says Nicholas Togerson, a junior mathematics major. Togerson goes home every weekend to work at a small town restaurant. But he admits that he spends most of his earnings on food.

Freshman Rasheed Howard, a business administration major shared that he saved his money from working over the summer. Rasheed Howard also shared that most of his money goes towards food.

While some people work hard for their spending money, some people, like Jenaee Macihirter, who is a psychology major, use their refund checks as a source for pocket money. Jenaee claims that she will find herself to spend most of her money on clothes and food.

Why are college students spending so much money on food? Especially when they pay so much money for meal plans? “The food here gets old” says Howard. Togerson and Macihirter both second that statement.

So how can college students cut back from spending money on food? Going grocery shopping for food is a great alternative. Whether or not you live in the dorms, grocery shopping will supply you with food that will last you a long time. It will also give you plenty of breaks from campus dining. If you must go out to eat, go occasionally. Before going, check the restaurant website for coupons!
