Professional Achievements of 2011

A jewel was found recently by yours truly and this jewel is the Professional Achievements of 2011! Though this is anything but rare, I've never seen it before and I'm guessing the majority of FSU students haven't either. The Professional Achievements of 2011 encompass the achievements from June 1 of 2010 to May 31 of 2011. The following passage describes what exactly the booklet entails:

This booklet highlights the many professional achievements during the past year of

Frostburg State University’s diverse and talented faculty and staff. As you will see in the

following pages, Frostburg’s faculty members and professional staff contribute to their

fields by producing original research, creative works and performances, and scholarship

in teaching and learning. Faculty and staff also engage in widespread service to their

fields and in the community. These professional activities enhance performance in the

classroom and bolster the University’s role in supporting regional, cultural and economic

development activities. Please join me in celebrating the professional achievements

of members of the Frostburg State University community and thanking them for their

efforts.

Dr. Stephen J. Simpson, Provost

Frostburg State University

It's actually disappointing that something like this isn't publicized better considering students could benefit from knowing what their professors are up to. FSU students may be able to connect with their professor's more if they see that they have similar interests. Students could also benefit from gaining experience by working with a professor conducting research related to their specialty of interest and/or potential occupation. Though this information is released by FSU Media Release is a mass email all that hard to send out to students and faculty with the PDF file attached? Even if this was difficult, this seems like something worth the trouble to publicize better!

Faculty members given awards this year are:

Dr. William L. Anderson, Department of Economics, for academic achievement

Dr. Scott P. Johnson, Department of Political Science, for academic achievement

Dr. Yan Bao, Department of Accounting, for university and community service

Gerard LaFemina, Department of English,
received the U
SM Regents award for public service.

The PDF file, http://www.frostburg.edu/fsu/assets/File/Achievements/profach11.pdf, can give you more information on their accomplishments. The awards post also recognizes achievements under titles such as:

Books Published, Books Edited, Book Reviews, Papers/Presentations, Workshops/Discussions led, Exhibits, Performances, Grants, Awards/Honors/Other Distinctions, Offices and Services, Offices Held in Community Organization, Service Performed (Academic and Professional Organizations), Services Performed (Community), Services Performed (University), and Other Items of Interest.

Our own Professor Andy Duncan is mentioned plenty of times. Check it out and look for what your other professors have been up to!

  1. Kayla, you should ask Dr. Simpson who the audience is for this publication, and how students could benefit from it.

Also, "released by FSU Media Release"? Is Media Release an FSU office?
