Sex-Files

The open responses for student opinions on the topic "acceptable number of sex partners" in college and/or in general were initially surprising. However, the feelings of five Frostburg State University students pose a challenge to the traditional ways society and older generations look at a person’s sexual track record.

The Question: What is an acceptable number of sex partners for a girl and a guy?

The Subjects:
Dakeda Hilliard: Social Work major – Prince George’s County
Ellis Hartridge: Social Work major – Washington D.C.
Erin True: Social Work major, Women Studies minor—Frederick County Tyra Richardson: Carroll County
Ashley Carroll: Law in Society major, concentration Criminal Justice, Sociology minor— Montgomery County

Arguement:
“We’re looking at a different day and age,” said Dakeda Hilliard with a serious look on her face. Although, the topic of “Acceptable Numbers of Sex Partners,” struck up lots of humor for the mere fact the topic was about SEX Hilliard’s acknowledgement clearly challenges society’s traditional belief about a person’s sexual track record.
Hilliard said she feels that guys and girls should be allowed equal sex partners, though, no more than 10 is ideal for both. Ellis Hartridge was a little more lenient on the ladies and a lot more lenient on the men. By the age of 30, Hartridge said girls should have no more than 13 partners, while guys could have 20. Some traditional views of sex seem to have given way to more youthful and open ways of viewing a person’s sexual history. “If a guy can sleep with as many partners as he wants, girls should be able to too, as long as she’s being safe,” declared Ashley Carroll, who appeared very annoyed by the double standard.

Still, it is obvious that a person’s biological sex still plays a major part in society’s view of what an acceptable number of partners is. “Ridiculous” was the word Carroll used to define 22 year old guys with 15-20 sex partners. Nevertheless, Erin True and Tyra Richardson both agree guys by the age of 22 could have 10-15 partners, while 5-10 is acceptable for girls. This double standard has always been an issue in society,“Guys feel that if a girl’s number of sex partners is anywhere near theirs then she’s a skank. Girls have to hold up a certain image,” said Ashley Carroll.

Conclusion:
The question “What is an acceptable number of sex partners for a girl and a guy?,” seems utterly impossible to answer with only black and white spaces. There are obviously many gray areas, age and sex being two of the main factors in Friday’s interviews. In some ways there is a cry for equally amongst the sexes and a push for society to back off, yet there is still a pull for the double standard the world is use to. Hartridge ended his response with a more playful sentiment and a big smile “We’re in college, you live life!” .... Photos from Google Images: manipulated by yours truly!
